About

Joan Gordon is an Australian craft and sewing designer. As a freelance design consultant she is currently working as the editor of the British ‘Making Jewellery’ Magazine. This is the second jewellery magazine that she has assisted in designing during the past two and a half years. Joan has been involved in the craft and sewing industry for approximately twenty-five years.

For nine months of the year Joan lives in the UK where she is based in a beautiful Welsh country village named Llantristant. For the other three months of the year she can be found in Queensland Australia in a district known as Somerset Dam in the Brisbane Valley. Joan has always chosen to live in the countryside as it provides her with the perfect atmosphere for creative inspiration and relaxation. As an international consultant she travels extensively, the UK is considered her home away from home.

Joan has taught various crafts and sewing techniques extensively throughout Australia, the UK and New Zealand. For several years she was the Queensland State Manager for McCalls Patterns and later created her own business ‘Victorian Lady’ working as a consultant with several craft and sewing companies. Joan is passionate about passing on traditional and innovative, craft and sewing skills to all generations and enjoys sharing her knowledge.

Nature provides her with much of her design inspiration. Working with precious metal clays, sewing, embroidery, Japanese Washi painting and flame-work are Joan’s favourite crafts. After having worked in an industry alongside a diverse and varied group of artisans, Joan enjoys experimenting and combining semi-precious stones and recycled glass with alternative mediums and is constantly looking for new ways to use beads in decorative and practical projects.

There are several 1 and 2 day workshops on offer at her studio in the Model House, in Old Llantrisant, Wales. If you’re looking for a creative break or a new hobby to enjoy, please give her a call. Accommodation can be arranged.
